ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT
Version 2.0 — Last Reviewed: August 1st, 2025
ACTA Press is committed to ensuring that all authors, editors, and readers, regardless of physical or cognitive ability, can access and engage with our journal content, submission systems, and websites without barriers.
We recognize accessibility as both a legal and ethical imperative, and we strive to continually improve our platforms in accordance with internationally recognized accessibility standards.
Digital Accessibility Standards
ACTA PRESS is actively working toward full alignment with:
- WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines)
- VPAT 2.4 reporting framework (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) for self-assessment and vendor compliance
- Regional and international legislation such as the Accessible Canada Act and Section 508 (U.S.)
We are continuously auditing our websites and publication systems to ensure:
- Proper semantic HTML and heading structure
- High contrast color schemes and font scalability
- Keyboard navigability and screen reader compatibility
- Descriptive alt-text for all images, charts, and graphs
- Accessible table formatting and captioning
- Use of PDF/UA and tagged PDFs where possible for accessible downloadable content
With the above in mind, a new site will be created in late 2025 that aligns directly with VPAT criteria.
Manuscript & Publication Accessibility
ACTA Press is working with authors and typesetters to ensure that published content, such as figures, tables, and supplementary data, meets the aforementioned accessibility standards.
Efforts include:
- Encouraging authors to submit alt-text for images and charts
- Publishing in accessible PDF/A or tagged PDF formats where technically feasible
- Evaluating visual elements for contrast compliance
- Making mathematical expressions compatible with screen readers via LaTeX-MathML conversion when possible
Submission & Editorial Systems
Our submission system and editorial workflows are being regularly evaluated for accessibility. We aim to ensure:
- Logical tab order and ARIA support
- Compatibility with major screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver)
- All essential actions are achievable without a mouse
Feedback and Support
We welcome feedback from users with disabilities and their representatives.
